Coach Development Programme
Training expert classroom coaches using TDSO’s systematic methodology
Effective teacher development depends on skilled coaches who can observe classroom practice, provide constructive feedback, and support teachers to implement new approaches. Our Coach Development Programme trains education professionals to become expert classroom coaches.
Programme Content
Observation Protocols
Coaches learn systematic approaches to classroom observation:
- Structured observation frameworks aligned with TPA principles
- Evidence-based note-taking techniques
- Identifying patterns in teaching practice
- Distinguishing between description and interpretation
Feedback Techniques
Effective feedback is specific, actionable, and supportive:
- Balancing affirmation with constructive challenge
- Using evidence from observation to ground feedback
- Facilitating teacher reflection rather than prescribing solutions
- Setting achievable improvement targets
Relationship-Building Skills
Coaching relationships require trust and respect:
- Establishing psychological safety for professional vulnerability
- Building rapport across different contexts and personalities
- Maintaining professional boundaries whilst being supportive
- Navigating challenging conversations constructively
Supporting Teacher Growth
Coaches learn to support development over time:
- Setting and tracking development goals
- Adapting coaching approaches to individual needs
- Recognising and celebrating progress
- Knowing when to challenge and when to support
Supervised Practice
Participants practise coaching under supervision, receiving feedback on their own coaching practice. This mirrors the approach we take with teachers: learning through doing, with expert support and constructive feedback.
Programme Outcomes
Coaches completing our programme can work effectively with both novice and experienced teachers, adapting their approach to individual needs whilst maintaining fidelity to evidence-based teaching practices. They become multipliers of TDSO’s methodology, extending our impact through sustained support for teachers in their schools and districts.
